A food safety class will be held at the Crosby Arboretum in Picayune on Thursday, Feb. 15.
According to a press release from the Mississippi State University Extension Service, the ServSafe class will be from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.
This is same class that has been offered for over 20 years and anyone who has a business where food is served is required to attend one food safety class annually, Family and Consumer Science MSU Extension Agent Dawn Vosbein said.
In Southern Mississippi, food safety classes take place in Gulfport about every six weeks and between 20 and 25 people register for the course.
During the course, attendees have the opportunity to learn about keeping meals at the appropriate temperatures, proper refrigeration, approved methods to reheat food, pest control, equipment maintenance and many other things.
The cost to register is $140 and the registration deadline is Feb. 8. To register, visit msucares.com or contact Vosbein at 601-403-2280.
“I encourage everyone who is interested in signing up for this course to do so early, so they can receive their book as soon as possible and get a head start on learning about food safety,” Vosbein said.
