Routine traffic stop finds driver with heroin

A routine traffic stop for a cracked windshield led a Picayune Police officer to find the driver allegedly possessed heroin.

According to reports filed with the Department, the stop was conducted on Dec. 4 just after 1 p.m. along Memorial Boulevard. When the officer spoke to the driver, later identified as  Jose Angel Talavera, 29, of 494 Salem Rd., he noticed that Talavera was nervous, and gave conflicting stories as to his destination, the report states.

The suspicious behavior prompted the officer to ask Talavera to exit his vehicle and then through investigative procedures, it was learned that the vehicle contained syringes and two bags of a substance suspected to be heroin, the report states. The substances were seized from the vehicle and he was arrested on the offense of possession of a controlled substance, the report states.
