PRC basketball teams triumph over Poplarville, Lady Hornets soccer team earns victory

Last Friday, the Blue Devils’ boys basketball team defeated Poplarville 77-49 in non-region action. 

A.J. Banks led Pearl River Central with 31 points, 10 rebounds, nine steals and one assist. Willie Reece accounted for 16 points, three rebounds, four assists and seven steals and Jason Long had 10 points, three rebounds, three assists and seven steals.

Ethan Henley finished with nine points, Jonathan Jenkins added four and Holden King had three. The Blue Devils (7-4) went 18-for-29 on the free throw line and will travel to Slidell on Friday to take on Pope John Paul II High School.  Tip-off will be at 2:15 p.m.

—Lady Devils 57-23 Lady Hornets: After coming up short against Petal High School on Dec. 11, the Pearl River Central girls basketball team earned its eighth victory of the season, defeating Poplarville 57-23 last Friday. Harlee Davis finished the game with 13 points, six rebounds, four assists and three steals.  Brooklyn Howe added four points, nine rebounds and four assists, while Breyanna Bernard contributed eight points, six rebounds and one steal.  Samantha Orgeron led the Lady Devils (8-3) in scoring with 14 points.

Pearl River Central will travel to Bay St. Louis to take on Our Lady Academy on Friday.  Tip-off will be at 4 p.m.

Soccer — Lady Hornets 5, Lady Tornadoes 2: Three goals in the first half for Poplarville propelled the team to a 5-2 victory over Purvis High School Tuesday night. Chasity Dearman scored twice in the first half and Ali Glasscock added one goal in the first half.  Purvis scored twice in the second half but two goals from Austin Mayfield helped  Poplarville secure the win. The Lady Hornets will host East Central in a district matchup on Jan. 9. Boys soccer team did not play.
