Picayune On-Stage is gearing up to present its new show “Murder for Dummies,” at the Hideaway Lake Lodge in Carriere from Jan. 19 to Jan. 21.

Based off the book with the similar title and written by author Pat Cook, the local theater’s showing of the play is directed by Donna Aguilard. She said it promises to be a comedy everyone will enjoy.

Aguilard said attendees of the show can expect a good laugh while enjoying great food and have a good time.

The play focuses on protagonist Myron Bernhart, who is immensely proud of his large and rare collection of books, including his latest purchase “Murders for Dummies.”

As much as Bernhart loves his books, his wife Marge abhors them and hatches a plan with women from the Civic Art League to sell them all and earn some quick money, Aguilard said.

In the story, Berhhart is tired of his wife’s constant nagging and just wants to enjoy his new purchase. As he flips to the first page of the book, the first line reads, “So, you want to commit a murder.” Now inspired by those words, he offers Marge a special glass of tea. But what happens next is a series of occurrences that go against Bernhart’s plan, creating an interesting fast-paced comedy mystery.

Aguilard said the show will present several new actors to the troupe and bring back old favorites.

Tickets for the dinner and show are $33. Doors to the Friday and Saturday shows open at 6 p.m. Doors to Sunday’s show will open at noon.  Call 601-799-1714 for reservations
