Mother seeks help for daughter’s mystery illness

After several visits to several doctors and hospitals, one Picayune mother is no closer to understanding what is ailing her daughter.
Frankie Fowler has searched for a diagnosis and subsequently a cure for her daughter for the last year and a half.
It all started in May of 2016 when Fowler’s daughter, Asiya Gaston, fell ill and her mom took her to a pediatrician who initially believed she was suffering from a urinary tract infection.
Three months later, Gaston’s condition had not improved and she has since visited numerous urologists and pediatricians with practices from Jackson to New Orleans, but a diagnoses has yet to be found.
“Gaston was an honor roll student, she never missed school and was part of the Beta Club and was ready to make plans to attend college,” Fowler said. “I just keep praying for a doctor to find a solution to what my daughter is going through or at least give us a name of what she has been battling for the last year.”
During the last couple of months, Gaston underwent several medical procedures including an MRI, CT scan, blood work, cystoscopy among others but the doctors have yet to determine the cause of her illness, Fowler said.
The doctors have worked to the best of their abilities in an effort to help her daughter, but for some reason a diagnosis and therefore a possible cure has yet to be established, Fowler said.
Meanwhile, Gaston said it has been challenging to battle a sickness that has no name and she’s just ready for it to be over. She said that her own research on the Internet has not provided a name of what she is going through.
“Dealing with this situation has taught me to be strong and push through,” Gaston said. “I just have to keep faith and hope somebody will find a cure. My mom is a very strong and caring person and has helped me a lot since the beginning. I don’t know what I would do without her.”
