The Christmas season is here, and today no matter what city you live in, you have the opportunity to get out and participate in a holiday-themed event.
In Poplarville, residents will be able to line the streets to view the annual Christmas parade.
It’s always a fun time with plenty of floats, marching groups and of course, Santa Claus atop a fire truck.
The parade will take its historic route, starting in front of Poplarville High School before heading down Main Street through the downtown area and then taking a left onto West Larkin Smith Drive before ending at the intersection of West Larkin Smith and Highway 11 near Pearl River Community College.
The parade starts at 5 p.m. and will continue until all floats and participants have reached the end.
Within the city limits of Picayune, residents can get an early taste of Christmas by attending Picayune Main Street’s annual Christmas on the Rails/Shop by Candlelight event.
This festive event features a number of activities, performances and shopping opportunities for your holiday pleasure.
You won’t want to miss the many performances by children and adult choral groups, or the various rides offered by a toy train, a stagecoach and even a hayride.
While the weather is not forecast to be too cold, hot chocolate stations will be available at several locations to warm your spirits.
And if you are interested in a quick history lesson about the rail system and its influence on Pearl River County, be sure to stop in to the Intermodal Transportation and Tourist Center’s Lower Pearl River Valley transportation museum.
There, you will find a number of artifacts and pictures donated by the families of those who helped establish this great community.
So, plan for some seasonal festivities tomorrow night.
