A fundraiser is currently underway for Friendship Park in Picayune in the form of sponsorships. The funds will be used to cover the cost of upgrades to the facilities.
According to a press release from the city of Picayune, the plan to upgrade the facilities includes adding a brick backstop to all 14-baseball fields and an asphalt walkway.
A field sponsorship will cost $3,500, and will cover the cost of construction labor and materials to complete the backstop to a baseball field. A business will have the naming rights for three years to the field they sponsored. After the initial three years have passed, the business will have an opportunity to renew their naming rights for the field at a cost of $500 per year, the release states.
A business will have their name on the backstop, as well as the scoreboard of the field they sponsor, the release states.
Currently, citizens in a wheelchair or with a walking aid have a difficult time making their way through the baseball quad without paved walkways. The total cost of the asphalt construction is $18,000.
The park is heavily used by locals and for regional tournaments. According to previous coverage, Friendship Park hosted a regional Cal Ripken tournament for 7-year-old baseball players in the summer and recently hosted a soccer tournament organized by the Pearl River County Soccer Club.
“We hope that you would be willing to help in the growth of Friendship Park so that we can continue to strive to be the best,” Director of Parks and Recreation Trevor Adam said in the release.
