The Pearl River County SPCA will be the beneficiary of its sixth annual cheese ball fundraiser.

Customers can choose from two variations of a homemade cheese ball, which is an original old family recipe and contains blue cheese and nuts, or purchase a new-recipe jalapeno cheese ball.

“My husband and I make a donation to the PRC SPCA every year but we couldn’t contribute too much financially, so we thought of another way to help the animal shelter,” Flo Wiese said. “We shared our idea of selling cheese balls with the PRC SPCA and they loved it and so far, it has been a huge success.”

The funding for the PRC SPCA has been cut during the last couple of years and the couple wanted to help the shelter staff out in any way possible, Wiese said.

“Every cent that we make off of the cheese balls is donated to the animal shelter and (over the last) five years, we have raised over $2,700,” Wiese said.

The 10-to-11-ounce cheese balls cost $8 each and are made when the customer orders it, Wiese said.

“We will be taking orders from Christmas through Super Bowl weekend,” Wiese said.

The PRC SPCA shelters dogs and cats looking for a new home and also offers a low cost spay neuter program. For more information or to place an order, call Wiese at (504) 259-3642 or the PRC SPCA at (601) 798-8000.

“This is a great way to help the animal shelter and I hope everyone doesn’t miss out on enjoying a great tasting cheese ball this holiday season.”
