Six arrested during safety checkpoint

Six people were arrested for various offenses during a safety checkpoint conducted by the Picayune Police Department.
According to a departmental release, the checkpoint was being conducted on Oct. 30 on Highway 11 South near Interstate 59. At that time the officers noticed a vehicle approach but fail to stop, being driven by 28-year-old Joshua Joseph Pomes of 15 Montclair Dr., Carriere.
An officer chased the vehicle for about two miles before it was stopped. The release states that Pomes was found to have three contempt of court warrants, leading to his arrest.
Back at the checkpoint, a narcotics detective came into contact with David William “Sir William” Hight, 29, of 46 Hobry Holston Rd., Carriere, who was determined to have a suspended driver’s license due to controlled substance violations, the release states. Hight was arrested for driving while license suspended and a search was conducted of his vehicle, where the detective found a clear bag containing a crystal like substance suspected to be methamphetamine, a glass pipe with a burnt white residue, leading him to be additionally arrested for possession of a controlled substance and possession of paraphernalia
Later, Joshua Paul Livaccari, 42, of 30 George Walker Rd., approached the checkpoint. While speaking with him, officers noticed the odor of marijuana coming from the interior of the vehicle, leading to a search, the release states. In that search, the officers found a clear bag containing a green leafy substance suspected to be marijuana, leading to his arrest for possession of marijuana in a motor vehicle.
The fourth suspect, 41-year-old Adam Elijah Hollingsworth, of 158 Cliff Mitchell Rd., Nicholson, also had the odor of marijuana in his vehicle when he approached the checkpoint, leading to a search of his vehicle. Inside the officers found a clear bag containing a green leafy substance suspected to be marijuana and determined he did not have proof of insurance, leading to his arrest for possession of marijuana in a motor vehicle and no proof of insurance.
Later that same day, 42-year-old Charlie Ray Williams of 28491 Isaac Rd., Lacombe, La., approached the checkpoint with a 32 ounce can of beer in the center console, the release states. Williams and his passenger, 26-year-old Brandon Lee Schiro of 235 Morgan Seal Rd., was asked to exit the vehicle and a search was conducted. In the search, the officer found an orange syringe containing a clear substance suspected to be methamphetamine and a clear bag of a green leafy substance suspected to be marijuana. Williams and Schiro denied ownership of the controlled substances, leading them both to be arrested for possession of a controlled substance, possession of paraphernalia and open beer.
