Poplarville School Board recognizes football team

During Monday’s Poplarville School District Board of Trustees meeting, participants and coaches in the Middle School of Poplarville’s 8th grade football program were presented with certificates for winning the North Coast Conference.

Also, the Board heard about how the District achieved an A accountability rating for the 2016-2017 school year and ranking the District eighth out of 144 districts.

The accountability grades presented at the Board meeting showed that each school’s grades either stayed the same or improved from the previous year. According to information presented at the meeting, the District moved from a B in 2016 to an A in 2017. At each school within that timeframe, Poplarville Lower Elementary moved from a C to B, Poplarville Upper Elementary maintained its B from the previous year. Middle School of Poplarville went from a C to B and the Poplarville High School went from a B to A.

The Board also approved minor changes to the wording of technology job descriptions.

Finance Director Samantha Sandifer presented the Board with the monthly financial statement and requested the Board approve the financial reports for September 2017.

Work involving the renovation of the Poplarville High School cafeteria was approved by the Board during Monday’s meeting. That work will be funded with capital project funds the District has received over previous years.

Before adjourning, the Board entered into executive session to discuss a personnel issue.
