Pearl River County residents will have an opportunity to have their pet’s portrait taken with Mrs. Claus this holiday season.

The second-annual event will take place on Saturday, Dec. 2 at Watts Veterinary Services, located at 201 Kirkwood Street in Picayune, between 1 p.m. and 4 p.m.

All proceeds will be donated to the Pearl River County SPCA to help cover operating costs for the shelter.

Pets can have their portrait taken with Mrs. Claus or have that photo taken without a Christmas theme, said PRC SPCA public relations representative Maria Diamond.

“We held this event last year and it was a lot of fun for everyone,” Diamond said.

Pet owners can choose to buy a portrait package for $25, which includes one 8-by-10, two 5-by-7s and eight wallet size pictures, or portraits can be purchased individually for $10.

According to its website, the PRC SPCA helps dogs and cats find forever homes where they will be loved. All pets are spayed and neutered and up-to-date on their vaccinations.

According to previous coverage, Watts Veterinary Services opened its doors in 2016 and provides care for not just dogs and cats but less traditional pets such as snakes, lizards, iguanas and birds.

To schedule an appointment for the photo session or for more information, call PRC SPCA volunteer program manager Cindy McDonald at (601) 749-3562. Portraits will be available for pickup at the animal shelter a couple of days later or they can be mailed.

“This is one of our many events that we host throughout the year in order to raise funds since our budget has been cut several times in the last couple of years,” Diamond said. “I encourage everyone in the community who is a pet owner to bring their pet and get their picture taken with Mrs. Claus. She will be pretty well dressed and is really nice with pets.”
