Election for new Picayune School Board member is set for Tuesday

The Picayune School Board Trustee District 2 election will take place Tuesday, Nov. 7.

Two candidates will be on the ballot, former School Board member Reese Moody, and local business owner Josh Robertson.

Moody and Robertson will be vying for current Board member Frank Feeley’s seat.

This will be Robertson’s first campaign for a seat on the School Board.

“I am co-owner of Robertson Brothers (pre-owned auto sales) and we have successfully served the local community for over 12 years,” Robertson said in his candidate announcement. “For the last decade, I have devoted myself to coaching our local youth in multiple sports. During this time, I have realized my purpose, kids. Being in their lives, I see on a daily basis the leadership, guidance and most importantly the love our youth needs to live happy and successful lives.”

Moody has been on the Board in years prior.

“I have had the privilege and honor to serve on the School Board in the past years in which many improvements and growth within the school system was made,” Moody said in his political announcement. “I have knowledge and experience about 16th Section Land, the school system and budget. The faculty and students both need a voice in the system, and I would like to be that voice for them and others. I commit to being there for the community, and I genuinely care about our school system, the faculty, the students and their education.”

Precinct polling places will be open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Citizens unable to vote on Tuesday can submit an absentee ballot at the Picayune office, which will be open on Saturday, Nov. 4 from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m.

Voters can determine if they live in Picayune School District 2 and what precinct to vote at by looking at their voter registration card, under “School District.”

Citizens residing in District 2 will be able to vote in the following precinct poling places:

— Central Fire Station, 435 S. Loftin Ave.

— National Guard Armory, 1251B Hwy. 11 S.

— Pine Grove Volunteer Fire Department, 34 Pine Grove Rd.

— Nicholson Volunteer Fire Department Station 1, 1981 Hwy. 11 S.

— Southeast Volunteer Fire Department Station 3, 654 F Z Goss Rd.

— Sycamore Baptist Church, 112 Sycamore Rd.
