During Tuesday’s Poplarville Board of Aldermen meeting, motions were approved to sell two vehicles from the Poplarville Police Department and seek funding to purchase two more.

The Board of Aldermen approved a request by the Poplarville Police Department to sell two 2012 Chevrolet Tahoes to the Tishomingo County School District for $9,000 each.

“Due to the amount of mileage, wear and tear and repairs to the two vehicles, we decided the best option was to sell them while they still had a high market value,” City Clerk Jane O’ Neal said.

The Board also approved purchasing two 2018 Ford Police Interceptor sedans at a cost of $27,654 each. The purchase is subject to financial approval.

“We will be in contact with local banks and see if we have the funds to proceed with the purchase,” O’Neal said. “We will make the final decision at our next meeting.”

Most of the Board voted in favor of the matter, with Alderman Kevin L. Tillman voting against it.

At the end of the meeting, the Board went into executive session to discuss personnel in the police department, potential litigation and review annual statutory reappointments.

No action was taken on those issues.
