Although a Mississippi Highway Patrol release states that there was a significant decrease in the number of motor vehicle accidents over the Labor Day weekend compared to previous years, three separate vehicular related deaths occurred on federal and state highways in the state over the holiday weekend. One of the victims was from Picayune.
Early Saturday morning, Dannica Isaac, 32, of Picayune, died after her vehicle was involved in a head-on accident with another vehicle driven by Robert Roblin, 28, of Purvis, on Highway 11 in Lamar County. Both drivers were pronounced at the scene. The incident is still under investigation.
MHP Capt. Johnny Poulos said in the release that troopers investigated 124 traffic collisions, 42 of which resulted in injuries, compared to the 175 crashes during last year’s Labor Day enforcement period. Troopers also issued 3,843 citations and made 58 DUI arrests this year.
