J.B.  “Slim” Thigpen

Funeral Services for J.B. “Slim” Thigpen, age 85, of Picayune, Mississippi, who passed away Sunday, September 24, 2017, will be held Wednesday, September 27, 2017, at 11:00 am at Flat Top Unity Baptist Church.

Visitation will be Wednesday, September 27, 2017 from 9:30 am until 11:00 am at Flat Top Unity Baptist Church. 

Burial will be in Gipson Cemetery under the direction of McDonald Funeral Home.

Rev. Randy Shaw will officiate the services, assisted by Rev. Scott Downes and Rev. Paul Thigpen.

A native of Hancock County, Mississippi, he was an Electrician and a member of Flat Top Unity Baptist Church. Slim was employed at Avondale Shipyards, Brockway Standard, and Luke Enterprises with Pearl River Central School District. He and May Bell were foster parents for over 20 years. Slim was a member of Harmonies of Faith Gospel Group. He was also a fundraiser for St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital, for many years.

He was preceded in death by his parents, James Thomas Thigpen and Janie Marshall Thigpen; his wife of 57 years, May Bell Thigpen; his brothers, Hubert Thigpen, George Thigpen, and Arville Thigpen; and his sisters, Esther Mitchell, Myrtis Thigpen, Flora Pittman, Lois Meitzler, Eunice Jarrell, and Yvonne Anderson.

Left to cherish his memory are his children, Charlene (Freddie) Parker, Rev. Paul (Stephanie) Thigpen, Amy (Dax) Saucier, Joey Thigpen, and Elizabeth Thigpen; Seven grandchildren, Jennifer (Lockley) Shell, Lisa (Ben) Lott, Stephen Parker, Rev. Kyle (Bridget) Thigpen, Kayla Thigpen, Kristopher Thigpen, and Konner (Shelbie) Thigpen; five great grandchildren, Noah Thigpen, Malachi Thigpen, Braydon Thigpen, Bristol Thigpen, and Oaklyn Thigpen; close nieces, Ann Holifield and Bonita Hann; and numerous nieces and nephews.
