Before April showers fall, prepare your vehicle

We are now in the month of April, the time of year when rain events are prevalent.
As the old saying goes, April showers bring May flowers.
The rain forecast for this weekend and early next week will hopefully wash off the pollen dusting our windshields, but will make for dangerous driving conditions.
Springtime in Mississippi provides us with our fair share of storms, so it’s important to ensure your vehicle is ready for wet roads.
Driving in any kind of bad weather should be done with extreme caution, but having the wrong equipment can make the situation more dangerous.
To prepare for the impending spring showers make sure your car has suitable tires and other equipment. Now is the time to replace your old, worn out windshield wipers; new wipers will make a world of difference. Also don’t forget to add windshield washing fluid to ease removal of bugs and increase visibility any time of the year.
Tires and brakes can be expensive to replace, but that investment could save your life during a rainstorm. Recently, storms have brought high winds that can affect the handling of any vehicle on the interstate and on our county roads. Avoid using cruise control during a rainstorm due to the risk of hydroplaning.
Evidence of the power of the high winds can be seen near exit 6 on Interstate 59 North. See today’s please fix. That power can also push your vehicle off course. Even if your vehicle is ready for the weather, keep an eye out for other dangers.
Other tips include adding extra space between you and other vehicles when roads are wet and looking twice before proceeding through an intersection.
