Pearl River County residents, Samantha and Joshua Carr, had their New Year’s wish granted early this year as fireworks lit up the sky. At the stroke of midnight on New Year’s Day, Samantha Carr was playing cards with her mother when all of a sudden she felt a contraction.
“Right after it happened, we heard fireworks go off outside and knew immediately that it was time,” Samantha Carr said.
At around 2 a.m. Samantha Carr went to Highland Community Hospital where she later delivered the county’s first baby of the year.
At 3:46 a.m. Emberly Joy Carr was born, weighing in at 5 pounds, 13 ounces and measuring 19 inches long.
This is Samantha Carr’s third child, including 7-year-old Grayson, and 3-year-old Sara. Besides being born on New Year’s Day, the uniqueness of Emberly’s birth was that she was born exactly on her due date, which rarely happens, Samantha Carr said. In her experience with the birth of her older children, she gave birth earlier than the due date.
“I was prepared to give birth before New Year’s Day, but this was a pleasant way for it to happen because there weren’t too many surprises, which was nice,” Samantha Carr said.
