Hancock County Sheriff’s deputies responded to a report of a shooting Tuesday morning near the intersection of Highway 603 and Highway 53 in Necaise.

Lt. Carl Contrarchis said the victim reported engaging in an altercation with two suspects around 8:30 that morning.

Contrarchis said the fight occurred at an unknown location on Highway 53 before the victim fled the scene after two gunshots were fired in his direction.

The victim suffered a minor cut to the head, Contrarchis said.

It was unknown if the injury resulted from a bullet or shattered glass, he said.

The victim fled to the Hancock County Community Shelter where contacted deputies and filed a report.

Contrarchis said the department is investigating the incident. The identity of the suspects is unknown.
