Pearl River County Animal Control responded to a break-in of a different nature Tuesday night, which involved a fawn jumping through a window of a home off Highway 26 East in Poplarville.
Animal Control Officer Danny Joe Slade said he received a call late that night about a fawn that jumped through an unoccupied bedroom window that night.
The homeowner, who wasn’t home at the time of the incident, received a call from a neighbor who heard the crash, he said.
It appears the juvenile deer was running along the highway, jumping over small bushes and fences before it ran into the unlit house and went through the bedroom window, Slade said.
The cause of the incident is believed to be due to the fawn being spooked by a vehicle on the highway, causing the young animal to run at a high rate of speed, before striking the dark home, Slade said.
When Slade arrived at the home, he said the animal appeared frightened and was curled up next to a chair, unable to gain traction on the wood floor.
The deer was not injured during the incident, despite breaking both panes of glass and the metal frame, Slade said.
The animal was caught without incident and released back into the wild, he said.
