Vernon Wayne Whitfield, Sr.

Vernon Wayne “Peanut” Whitfield, Sr. of Picayune, MS passed away on Saturday, October 22, 2016 at the VA Hospital in Biloxi, MS, he was 67 years old.
Mr. Whitfield was born on December 8, 1948 in Mendenhall, MS. He served in the United States Marine Corp from 1967-1971 during the Vietnam War. Mr. Whitfield lived in New Orleans, Chalmette, and in 1992 he moved to Picayune, MS where he lived the remainder of his life.
He enjoyed hunting with his sons and grandsons, horses, and spending time with friends.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Thelma Mae Godwin Whitfield and Vernon Walter Whitfield; his sister, Thelma Jean Johnson; and his son, Joseph Earl Whitfield.
Mr. Whitfield is survived by his companion Mary Carlisle; his former wife, Earline Whitfield; his siblings, Butch Porter, Charlotte Favalora, Linda Martin, and Ivy Whitfield; his children, Vernon Wayne (Dianna) Whitfield, Jr., Melanie Whitfield (Gary) Thomas, Christopher Todd Whitfield (Rachel), Derek (Crystal) DeRouen and Jennifer Hernandez; 13 grandchildren; 4 great-grandchildren; and a host of family and friends.

A memorial service will be held at the Howard Avenue Chapel of Bradford-O’Keefe Funeral Home, 675 Howard Ave., Biloxi, MS, on Friday, November 4, 2016 at 12:15 p.m.. Friends may visit from 10:00 a.m. until service time.
Interment with military honors will follow the memorial service at Biloxi National Cemetery.
