PRC SPCA hold calendar photo contest for local pet owners

The Pearl River County SPCA animal shelter is holding a photo contest for local pet owners who think their pets have what it takes to be featured in next year’s PRC SPCA “Pet-Idential” Election calendar.
To enter, contestants must go to the PRC SPCA website and click on the photo contest link. Each contestant will submit their favorite photo of their pet and enter it into the contest where anyone can vote—as many times as they choose—on their favorite animal to be in the calendar. The pets do not have to have been adopted from the PRC SPCA shelter.
It costs $1 per vote and $5 to enter a pet in the photo contest.
“We have a lot of fun during this contest,” Maria Diamond, PRC SPCA public relations representative said. “It is great seeing all these happy animals around the area.”
The deadline to vote is Oct. 15 at 11:59 p.m. The top six cats and top six dogs with the most votes will be featured as the pet of the month in the 2017 PRC SPCA calendar. Each winning pet will receive a free pet glamour shot session, which includes electronic copies of the photos. One of the photos captured during the glamour session will be used in the calendar. The pet owner will receive a free copy of the calendar along with a feature on the PRC SPCA website with their pet’s bio and photo.
Submitted photos must be in landscape format with only pets in the shot. Pet owners can submit as many pets as they want. Submissions should also include the pet’s name, age, city and state, quirks and a brief bio or story of the animal.
Last year was the first time the PRC SPCA made a calendar, which gave them experience to improve the project.
“Unlike last year, we will use one of the glamour shots for the calendar with a specific theme for each month,” Diamond said. “This will improve the quality of the calendars, which should be pretty entertaining.”
Also, anyone can reserve a day on the calendar for their pet for $15. A picture of the pet will be placed on that chosen day to honor the pet.
Calendars will be available at the Picayune Street Fair on Nov. 5 and 6. However, people can pre-order a calendar on the animal shelter’s website under the contest link. Pre-orders must be made before Oct. 15 at 11:59 p.m. Each calendar costs $15. Pre-ordered calendars can be picked up at the animal shelter, or delivered via mail for an additional $5.
All funds will go toward operating expenses for the PRC SCPA animal shelter.
