A single-vehicle accident near Poplarville resulted in a juvenile passenger suffering life-threatening injuries.
At 1:51 a.m. on Oct. 1, Pearl River County Sheriff’s deputies were dispatched to Highway 11 North and North Main Street, where emergency medical personnel were already on scene, Chief Deputy Shane Tucker said.
Both the male driver and female passenger are juveniles, Tucker said.
The initial investigation indicates that the 2009 Nissan Titan was traveling south on Highway 11, Tucker said.
Deputies were not sure if the driver was attempting to turn onto Main Street when the vehicle left the roadway and went into the ditch, striking a tree stump, Tucker said.
The female passenger was taken to the University of Mississippi Medical Center in Jackson for treatment of life-threatening injuries, Tucker said.
The male driver did not suffer severe injuries, Tucker said.
The department is still investigating the accident to determine whether drugs or alcohol were involved, Tucker said.
