Betty Claire Smith, 78, of Poplarville, Mississippi, died Thursday, October 6, 2016 in Wesley Medical Center, Hattiesburg, Miss.
Graveside funeral services will be at the Wade Smith Family Cemetery on Sunday, October 9, 2016 at 2:00 pm. Rev. Quentin McCardle will officiate the service.
Miss Smith was born in Poplarville on March 13, 1938 to Wade Smith and Loyce Ward Smith. She grew up in the Progress Community, attended Progress School, and graduated from Savannah High School. She also attended Pearl River Community College.
She was a life-long member of Hickory Springs Baptist Church. Her hobbies included reading and working crossword puzzles. She had an uncanny ability to remember birthdates. She could always be relied upon to provide someone’s birthday and age during a conversation.
Her parents precede her in death.
Family members include three siblings, Jane Spengler of Norco, La., Gail Smith, Byron Smith, both of Poplarville, Miss.; and a host of extended family.
Bettye was a blessing to everyone that she came into contact with and will be great missed by all that knew her.
