The Pearl River Central Blue Devils head into Friday’s game rested and prepared for the undefeated Harrison Central Red Rebels. It is no secret that the Red Rebels focus on running the ball whenever they can, tallying 390 rushing yards in their first game and over 250 yards in their second. However, the mystery is what to expect out of the Red Rebels’ defense, Blue Devils’ Head Football Coach, Larry Dolan said.

“Were not quite sure what to expect out of their defense, but we do know they are quick. They are ranked second on the coast right now so it’s going to be a challenge,” Dolan said.

The Red Rebels conceded 40 points in their season opener against the McComb Tigers, but bounced back to only allow 7-points in the next game against the Moss Point Tigers.

In those games, Harrison Central had two interceptions and two fumble recoveries with two forced fumbles.

With the extra week of preparation, the Blue Devils have focused on themselves, correcting the mistakes made in their first two games of the season.

“The extra week helped us work on our mistakes and fundamentals,” Dolan said. “We didn’t spend that much extra time focusing on Harrison Central. Instead we spent that time on ourselves to make sure we can eliminate what we can control.”

Outside linebacker Seth Orgeron leads the Blue Devils defense with 19 total tackles, a fumble recovery and an interception. Dolan said his leadership has helped this defense see their potential.

“Our tackling is progressing. Last game against Poplarville we didn’t start out well but throughout the game we were getting better,” Dolan said. “We want to get better with every rep. Our opponents are only going to get tougher, but if we keep getting better, I like our chances.”

Dolan expects a physical football game against the Red Rebels this Friday because of their size on the offensive line. He said they have a couple 300-pound linemen that will test the Blue Devils’ run defense, something Dolan is aware of.

“They have a talented running back and quarterback that can run really well. We just have to contain them and we will see good benefits from that,” Dolan said.

The 1-1 Blue Devils take on the 2-0 Red Rebels Friday at Pearl River Central High School. Kickoff is around 7 p.m.
