According to a press release from the Mississippi Secretary of State’s Office, an online auction has begun for tax-forfeited property in Pearl River County.
The 172 parcels of land have a combined value of $213,811, states the release.
The land is located in the Lake Hillsdale area outside Poplarville, specifically in the Lake Vista, Lake Catfish, and Lake Happiness subdivisions.
Lot values were set based on an assessment done by the Pearl River County Tax Assessor’s Office, said Anna Moak, communications director for the Secretary of State’s Office.
“The implementation of online tax-forfeited property auctions will advance our Agency’s online initiative and will also help market these properties to benefit Pearl River County,” said Secretary of State Delbert Hosemann in the release.
The properties were forfeited to the state for non-payment of ad valorem taxes, states the release.
Bids will be accepted until August 24 at 5 p.m. online and via sealed paper bids addressed to 125 S. Congress St., Jackson, MS.
Online bids can be made at http://www.sos.ms.gov/Public-Lands/Pages/Tax-Forfeited-Auction.aspx.
There is no fee for placing a bid online, said Moak.
The online database shows property details, including location, picture, size, value and bid amounts.
