OBIT Melvin Nixon

Funeral service will be held Monday, July 18, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. in Anointed Dove Ministry for Sgt. Melvin “Big Mel” Nixon Sr., 66, of Picayune, MS who died July 11, 2016 in Picayune, MS. The Bishop Anthony Pressley III will officiate at the service. Burial will be in the LA VA Cemetery under the direction of Baylous Funeral Home.
A native of Carriere, MS, he was retired from Stennis Space Center and National Guard. He was a member of the Anointed Dove Ministry and Graduate of Carver High School. He was the President of the Brotherhood, Deacon, Mason, and a coach at Slidell Church Basketball League.
Survivors include: wife of 16 years, Charlene Nixon of Picayune, MS; 6 daughters, Darnectia, Dorothy, Dosothea, Regina, Sheila, and Amielillon; 5 sons, Melvin Jr, Desmond, Eli, D.J., and Dimitri; 2 brothers, David Nixon of Picayune, MS and Christopher Nixon of Picayune, MS, 7 grandchildren; 1 great grand child, Nieces, Nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Melvin Bunch and Evie Nixon; 2 sisters, Elaine Nixon and Rosie; 3 brothers, Edward, Woodrow, and David.
Visitation will be Monday, July 18, 2016 from 10:00-11:00 a.m. in Anointed Dove Ministry.
