Funeral services for Rev. William Gary Smith, 78, of Carriere, MS, who passed away Friday, June 17, 2016, will be held Sunday, June 19, 2016, at 12:00 p.m. at First Baptist Church of Carriere.
Visitation will be Sunday, June 19, 2016 from 10:00 a.m. until 12:00 p.m. at First Baptist Church of Carriere.
Burial will be in Carriere Cemetery under the direction of McDonald Funeral Home.
Evangelist Moody Adams will officiate the service.
A native of Meridian, MS, he was the minister of First Baptist Church of Carriere for 52 years. Bro. William Gary was a member of First Baptist Church of Carriere. He began the “To Learn the Bible” television ministry in 1970, and it is still broadcasting over WLOX. Bro. William Gary started the Bible Quiz Ministry in the Picayune Item and Hattiesburg American, which is still presently running in the papers. He started the Carriere Volunteer Fire Department.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Onan H. Smith and Edna Hughes Smith; and his sister, Earline Seymore.
Left to cherish his memory are his wife of 59 years, Bobbie Jo Golden Smith; his children, William Gary Smith, Jr., Jonathan Lee Smith, and Cynthia Jo Smith, 4 grandchildren, Jonathan Seth Smith, Summer Joy Bauer, Sunni Melissa Russell, and Justin Bruce Smith; 10 great grandchildren; his brother, Jack (Clarice) Smith; and his sister, Lorie McElroy.
