The Picayune Police Department is looking for two suspects regarding an alleged “quick change” scam that took place on May 22 at the Walmart in Picayune.
According to a statement by the Picayune Police Department, a “quick change” scam involves the suspect targeting inexperienced cashiers for small priced items with a large bill. Before change is provided, attempts to confuse the cashier through a series of other cash exchanges eventually lead to the suspect leaving with more money than they had when they entered the store.
Magri said detectives are looking for two suspects. Both are described as black males wearing all black clothing. One was wearing a white hat while the other had a black hat.
The suspects walked into Walmart at approximately 7:34 p.m. that day and went directly to the register. The male with the white hat purchased candy with a $100 bill, and then asked for change for another $100 bill in an attempt to confuse the cashier, said Magri.
The cashier then realized there was an attempt to scam her so she attempted to notify a manager. At that time, the suspect with the white hat realized the cashier was alerting managemnet and both males left the store in a hurry, leaving the extra $100 on the counter, Magri said. The male with the black hat was standing in line with the other suspect, holding the candy purchased through the scam, said Magri.
The suspects left the scene in a new dark gray SUV that was parked in the employee parking lot, Magri said. The male with the white hat appeared to be the driver.
Both suspects are wanted for the charge of false pretense.
The Picayune Police Department asks anyone with information about this case to report it to investigators. If they wish to remain anonymous, they can call Crime Stoppers at (601) 799-CLUE (2583).
