Take advantage of leadership program

Last week, the Pearl River County Partners in Leadership hosted its 2016 graduation ceremony.
After a year of attending group meetings and working on community service projects, nine members of this community have become more aware of the needs in our county.
For instance, one group chose to introduce the county’s young adults to the many career options available in this area. They hosted a career fair and invited local business owners along with representatives from John C. Stennis Space Center.
More often than not, in college graduates seek employment outside of their home county or state. But we need our young adults to stay and work in Pearl River County.
This was a great project and we hope group members continue to host the event annually.
Another group decided to clean up an attraction at the Crosby Arboretum. The newest garden will hopefully be full of butterflies soon.
The Arboretum is one of the county’s most beautiful and key attractions. This new garden will only enhance the arboretum’s charm.
During their year in the program, participants also attended monthly meetings where they introduced to many topics including leadership, education, economic and government development, health and social services, environment, history, art and law enforcement. Each one of these topics plays an integral role in our county.
We learn something new every day.
It’s important to be become aware of things that occur in our county and what things need to be improved upon, just like the playground at Pearl River Central Lower Elementary.
It’s aged and in a state of disarray so one of the groups decided to raise money for a new one. We encourage this group to keep up the good work and encourage our citizens to take advantage and sign up for the Pearl River County Partners Leadership program.
