Meet our new reporter

My name is Taylor Welsh. I was born and raised in a small town in North Carolina, Apex.
I love the small town feel because it gives you the chance to get to know everyone in the community on a personal level.
As a kid, I always wanted to be a writer. My grandfather owned a local newspaper in Apex and always brought home the most amazing stories that you could not make up.
My passion for reporting really came to me at an early age, and it grows every day.
I graduated with a bachelor’s degree from the University of North Carolina at Charlotte in communications and journalism. What I enjoy about journalism is that I get to express my thoughts and am living the life I have always wanted. I feel as if I do not work a single day when I am working as a journalist. During my time at school, I worked and covered all the sports there.
My favorite sport to play would have to be soccer, as I am a three time state champion and would have gone collegiate had I not had so many injuries.
I enjoy playing every sport—I’ve played football, basketball, and soccer in high school—and I like being active during my free time. Also, I like to get my hands dirty, literally, and pretend like I am a handyman, fixing most of the problems I have with my car and home all by myself, but most of the time I make it worse.
My world revolves around sports. I pride myself in my knowledge of football—NFL and NCAA—and love chatting about sports with anyone.
I am Southern Baptist and am really interested in contributing to the community by joining a local church.
I have only been in Picayune for a little while and I have already fallen in love with the town.
It reminds me of my hometown and I am very excited to meet every one of you.
