Catch a live production of a classic

Next weekend, Pearl River Community College theater students will perform in the college’s production of Disney’s Beauty and the Beast.
Now, along with being a Disney movie fanatic, I also enjoy watching musicals performed live on stage.
Last month, I interviewed PRCC theater instructor Christopher Flynn for a story that was featured in our magazine, Picayune Living.
At that time, Flynn was teaching his students the art of set design in preparation for this month’s production of the classic fairytale.
I met a lovely group of students who are passionate about building theater sets and Flynn was a joy to meet. He is also a fellow Ole Miss alumni. So, not only did we get the chance to discuss theater, but also our alma mater.
Tickets are now on sale for the production and I plan to purchase one.
Beauty and the Beast is one of my favorite Disney movies. There’s something magical about watching the beast learn to love someone other than himself. The songs are also some of my favorites.
When I visit Disney World, attending the live production of Beauty and the Beast performed at Hollywood Studios is always a must.
This is also a great chance to introduce children to theater. I’m sure many of them are familiar with the Disney classic and would delight in seeing their favorite characters come to life on stage.
They would also get a glimpse into live theater, which is the best way to enjoy a musical, in my opinion.
The musical will be performed at the Brownstone Center for the Performing Arts next Thursday, Friday and Saturday. You can purchase tickets by calling 601-403-1180 or by visiting
PRCC’s theater department is a great asset to not only the college, but also the entire region.
Because of this, we are afforded the opportunity to see live theatrical productions of some of our talented youth. And one day, we may see them again on Broadway.
