County offices, some schools closing early today

Poplarville and Pearl River Central schools will close early today. Picayune School District will hold a regular schedule.
Representatives with the Pearl River County School District announced Tuesday morning they will be sending students home early due to the threat of severe weather. Students in grades Kindergarten through fifth grade will be sent home at 11:45 by bus.
Students in attending middle school, high school and the Endeavor campus will be sent home by bus at 12:30.
Due to the expected storms, all Poplarville schools will be closing early today as well.
According to the district’s website and recording, buses will load students at the elementary schools at 12:20 p.m., at the high school at 12:35 p.m. and at the middle school at 12:45 p.m. Students who ride home by car should be picked up using the normal routine at adjusted times for each campus.
Picayune School District will hold school all day, said Assistant Superintendent Brent Harrell. If the weather is bad at the end of the school day Harrell said the students will be held until the weather passes for safety.
Pearl River Community College also reports they will close at noon, and all night classes for Tuesday have been cancelled.
Pearl River County Emergency Operations Center Public Relations Officer Tony Bounds reports that all county offices will be closing at 1 p.m. today, in Poplarville, Picayune and Millard.
Additionally, the EOC office has decided to open two emergency shelters, one in Poplarville and the other in Picayune. If anyone feels they need to utilize the shelter, they should contact the EOC directly at 601-795-3058. Anyone going to the shelter should be prepared to bring their own chair, food and water, Bounds said.
Weather reports state there is a possibility tornado could occur today and Wednesday due to the severe thunderstorms.
