Mary Elizabeth Turnbull Brown

Mary E. “Boo” Brown passed away on February 16, 2016, at her home in Hide Away Lake, Carriere, Mississippi.
She was married to Joseph Noble Brown who passed way in 2001. Married in 1943, during World War II, she moved with her husband to different air force bases in the southeast. While he was overseas, she was busy with babies and establishing a home.
Her children were raised in New Orleans and then Metairie, La., where she worked as a secretary and bookkeeper for several corporations through the years.
She will be mourned by her daughters Lucinda Gunther and husband John, Candace Howard-Volk and husband Edward Michael, and Christine VanKirk; grandchildren Blaire Hutchison, Tanya Mount, Regen Klein; and three great-grandchildren.
Boo was a well-respected portrait artist in Picayune. She had been an avid bridge player and active in the Republican Women’s Committee in Picayune. As a young woman in Hammond and Ponchatoula, she was the school singer during the big-band era. Boo will be missed by her friends and family who appreciated her creative mind and free spirit. Her life will be celebrated in private by close friends and family. In lieu of flowers, her children ask that donations be made to the American Cancer Society.
