Spend your afternoon at the parade

Saturday, the Krewe of the Pearl, Greater Picayune Arts Council and the Greater Picayune Area Chamber of Commerce will host their annual Mardi Gras parade in Picayune.
Carnival time is always exciting for those of us living in South Mississippi.
What’s nice about this parade is you don’t have to travel to New Orleans or Slidell and risk life and limb to catch a few throws.
Being able to attend a parade in your own backyard, where you know most of the attendees and participants, is ideal.
We hope everyone will attend this festive parade.
However, we also hope that you keep a few safety precautions in mind.
According to mardigrasday.com, one of the most important things parade goers can do is leave all valuables at home. This includes items such as jewelry and handbags.
Arrive early to secure an ideal parking space and a front row seat to the parade. Keep small children close to your side and don’t let them wander off in front of or on the side of parade floats, the website states.
The website also suggests bringing a plastic bag with a handle to store caught items.
The most important thing is to have fun.
We live in a great area staffed with a caring police force that who will ensure the safety of our residents.
We want to thank members of the Krewe of the Pearl for their efforts this and every year.
The festivities begin at 2 p.m. The route starts at Goodyear Boulevard, then heads down Highway 11 South to Memorial Boulevard and ends at Applebee’s.
