A Carriere woman died as a result of a two-vehicle accident Thursday afternoon on Highway 53 near Melton Smith Road.

Mississippi Highway Patrol troopers responded to the accident at 3:21 p.m. and found two vehicles, a Kia Sedona and Toyota Camry, damaged from a head-on collision, said Cpl. Benjamin Seibert, MHP spokesman.

Seibert said the Camry, driven by 72-year-old Diane Fawcus Beith of Carriere, was reportedly heading southbound on Highway 53 when it entered the northbound lane and collided with the Sedona, driven by 22-year-old Jayson Lee Woodfill of Waveland.

Woodfill sustained only minor injuries and Beith died on impact. The accident remains under investigation, Seibert said.
