OBIT Everlyn Burkett

Funeral services for Evelyn Angeline Burkett, 74, of Picayune, will be held Saturday, January 9, 2016 at 1:00 p.m. at Rose of Sharon Church of God in Christ where Elder David Simmons is Pastor. Reverend Charles Thomas will officiate at the services.
Evelyn A. Burkett was born on February 13, 1941 in Tylertown, MS to the late Oliver and Oradee Magee.
At a very young age the family relocated to Picayune where she was educated at George Washington Carver School.  She was well known and loved as one of the Carver High School Majorettes.
On May 6, 1960, Evelyn united in holy matrimony with her soul mate, Paul J. Burkett. This union lasted until the day God called her home, and was blessed with six beautiful children.  She remained a faithful dedicated member, serving currently under the leadership of Reverend Kevin Hart, she was the chairperson of the Church Decorating Committee.  Evelyn was well known and loved in the community as a great seamstress.
The trumpet blew and the Gates of Heaven were opened to receive our angel. Evelyn made the transition to her heavenly home on Monday December 29, 2015. She was preceded in death by her parents, Oliver and Oradee Magee; one daughter,  Paulette Burkett; two sisters, Martha Ree Williams and Dessie Ree Stubbs, two brothers-in-law, Andrew Burkett and Thomas Burkett.
She leaves to cherish her love and memories, her devoted and caring husband, Paul J. Burkett; five beautiful children, who adored her, Carl Donnell Magee, Janice Melinda Magee, both of Picayune, Audrey Ann Burkett, of Lansing, MI, Oliver Lynnell Burkett, and Darrell Lee (Delois) Burkett, both of Pontiac, MI; One sister, Angela Pittman; nineteen grandchildren; forty-three great grandchildren; one great great-grandson, Aidan Patrick Phillips; and a host of other loving relatives and friends.
Wake service will be held Friday, January 8, 2016 from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Little Providence Baptist Church.  Visitation will be one hour prior to service at Rose of Sharon COGIC. Interment will be in Picayune Cemetery. Entrusted to Brown’s Funeral Home.
