More job opportunities are coming to Picayune with the arrival of the fast-food chain Dairy Queen set to open in March. Bettie Pierce, manager at the Picayune WIN Job Center, said job seekers can apply for work at the new location during next month’s job fair.

The job fair will be hosted at the WIN center, located at 2005 Wildwood Dr., on Feb. 11, 12, 16 and 17 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Dairy Queen employees will be on hand to assist with any questions concerning the application process.

“We spread the days out so there wouldn’t be a massive rush. We’re excited that it’s a new employer coming to Picayune and it will create new jobs for our community,” Pierce said.

The Dairy Queen will be located in an existing building on 2501 Highway 11 N., which formerly housed Scooter’s Chicken in Picayune.

The franchise owner is Vincent Cheshire, who currently owns another Dairy Queen in Slidell, Louisiana, said Brian Young, general manager at the Dairy Queen of Slidell.

Young will help oversee the Picayune location.

“We’re looking for clerks, cashiers and ice cream makers who are friendly and outgoing people,” Young said.

He said they chose the new location because the franchise is growing and there wasn’t a Dairy Queen in the surrounding area.

They plan to offer on-the-job training to all hired employees.

Interested applicants who attend the job fair must present two forms of identification— a valid picture I.D. and another form of documentation.

Pierce said people can choose to pre-register online at www.mdes.ms.gov or at the WIN Job Center prior to the job fair to make the process easier.

When Dairy Queen opens, customers will be able to choose from a full-service menu that includes burgers, fries, wraps, sandwiches, hotdogs, chicken strip baskets, salads, sodas, ice cream cakes, hot desserts, ice cream sundaes and cones and blizzards.
