After the fireworks subsided and the rain started pouring outside of Highland Community Hospital, the first baby of 2016 in Pearl River County was born in Picayune.

Anita Burnett gave birth to a baby boy, Kash’ion, at 5:37 a.m. on Jan. 1. Kash’ion measured in at six pounds and eight ounces. Burnett said she was determined to have him on Jan. 1, which was her due date.

“I was trying my best to have him on New Year’s Day. It feels good. We are blessed,” Burnett said.
