Strive for your Emerald City

The cowardly lion finds courage in the 1939 classic “The Wizard of Oz.” Like the cowardly lion, we all have the courage within ourselves that gives us the strength to be bold and change our lives for the better. All we have to do is find it. Courage is what transforms the cowardly lion into a strong, fierce lion capable of being anyone he wants to be. Throughout the course of the film, the cowardly lion and his friends journey down the yellow brick road toward the Emerald City in hopes of meeting the wizard.
The yellow brick road is symbolic of our own journey through life. While we may face obstacles that try to bring us down, we also meet great friends and have opportunities to celebrate life and our accomplishments together, all while reaching our goals and facing our fears. Like the cowardly lion, sometimes I’m intimidated by the world and would like nothing more than the chance to slip into Dorothy’s ruby red slippers and say “there’s no place like home.” But we shouldn’t shy away from the opportunity of reaching our own version of the Emerald City. We can do that by stepping outside our little bubble and making it happen with a little courage. Whether our goal is to land that dream job, have a family, own a home or all of the above, we’re all more than capable of reaching our fullest potential, as long as we’ve got the courage and support system to do so.
As we walk down the yellow brick road, we often meet many people who may come and go or stay with us throughout our journey. I believe every person we meet comes into our lives for a reason. It may be to challenge, inspire or motivate us. While I’m nearly at the beginning of my yellow brick road, I’ve already met so many people who have done all of the above.
Life is a journey, constantly changing and evolving, and while it may seem scary, we must continue walking down the path in order to find the courage within ourselves to keep going.
