Two Poplarville residents were transported to Forrest General Hospital in Hattiesburg with moderate injuries after their vehicle left the roadway and struck a tree Tuesday.

At 6:56 a.m., deputies with the Pearl River County Sheriff’s department were notified of a single-vehicle crash on Peters Road near Joseph Henry Road, Capt. Joe Quave said.

It appears the car, a gold Nissan Sentra, was traveling east on Peters Road. The vehicle ran off the road on the left side, swerved back on the roadway and ran off the right side, where it overturned and struck a tree, Quave said.

The driver, 19-year-old Labarious Cotton-Robinson and passenger, 20-year-old Moesha Raine, both of Poplarville, were transported to the hospital, Quave said.

Excessive speed and failure to maintain the proper lane were contributing factors to the accident, Quave said.

No charges were issued, Quave said.
