An accident involving an 18-wheeler on Interstate 59 caused traffic delays Friday.

Mississippi Highway Patrol Spokesman Cpl. Benjamin Seibert said the wreck occurred at around 4:15 a.m., on Interstate 59 near the 33 mile marker.

The 18-wheeler, driven by 36-year-old Cory Marcel from Luling, Louisiana, was hauling two empty tankers, reportedly left the roadway on the left and went over a guardrail and into the median, striking a tree, Seibert said.

The southbound lane of the interstate was shut down from 6 a.m. until around 2 p.m. Friday, Seibert said.

The accident remains under investigation, Seibert said.
