Weather’s great for football, monster trucks

There’s no excuse this weekend for staying inside.
Friday night will be clear and crisp—with lows in the 50s—in this area, so PRC and Poplarville football fans will want to wear a sweater when they go to Friday’s games. And despite the fact that it’s a Friday the 13th, we wish all our teams the best of luck on the gridiron.
We’re also pleased to note the weather this Saturday will bring sunshine and highs in the mid-60s and lows in the 40s, so we hope to see a big, jacket-clad crowd at the Crosby Commons for the annual Run with the Pigs event. The Greater Picayune Area Chamber of Commerce deserves a nod for regularly organizing fun, affordable, local entertainment. A $10 ticket ($5 for the kids) will get you and your family live music, tasty pork, games, a petting zoo, a jeep and truck show and, this year, a monster truck.
Later Saturday, Main Street Picayune has organized the annual Christmas Open House, wherein doors will be open late for some Christmas shopping (or some personal indulgence, if you prefer).
If you have little ones, be sure and bring them downtown from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. for a photo with Santa. The Rotary Club is offering photos and St. Nick, who will be stationed in front of Larry’s Dry Cleaners Saturday.
Our downtown is doing better than a lot of downtowns in Mississippi. Most of the stores are occupied, there is stuff to see, eat and do even without the special events. We are right to be proud of our little downtown. Saturday we should do what we can to make sure the doors stay open late again next year.
