Martha Williams Rhodes, 91, 50 plus year Picayune, MS resident, passed away on Monday, November 2nd at
Rosemont Assisted Living in Humble, TX. Martha was born on March 24, 1924 in Metter, GA to Eunice & Robert Williams, Sr. Martha was an English graduate from Valdosta State University in Valdosta, GA.
She met her future husband, Oscar L. “Dusty” Rhodes, when he rented a room in a house right across the street from her and they married on October 24, 1953. Residing in Wilmington, NC for a time, she followed her NASA husband to Huntsville, AL, later arriving in Picayune, MS in 1963. She raised three sons at 1220 3rd Avenue: Mark D., Mike L., & David O. Rhodes.
Martha was a homemaker and good friend to her many neighbors, an avid mystery reader, and a devoted mother and wife. She was preceded in passing by her husband of 62 years and her brothers Wade and Robert Williams She is survived by her three sons, her daughters-in-law Nadine, Alison, & Donna Rhodes; granddaughters Treesha (Rhodes) Burright and  Michelle & Robin Carney;  grandsons Matthew (Leske); Brookly Rosen; and Jordan, Zachary, Conner, Cooper, & Kevin Rhodes;  great grandson Brayden Burright & great grandaughter Brinley Burright.
A commemoration will be held in the near future for Martha and Dusty in Wilmington NC. In lieu of flower and gifts, the family would be honored if all donations were made in Martha’s name to Rosemont Assisted Living (MEMO: Employee Fund) for the warm and caring staff who made Martha’s & Dusty’s  last years so pleasant & supportive.
