Dear editor,

I recently spent several days in the Pearl River County Hospital in Poplarville with a sick family member. I don’t know what I was expecting, as far as the level of care, but any expectations I had were exceeded every day, every time.

The staff, nurses, aides, doctors, respiratory therapist, physical therapist, social workers, administration, even food service and housekeeping, went above and beyond each time they tended to my loved one.  Their skill, kindness and compassion were absolutely overwhelming. I’d like to name them all individually but I would have to name everyone.  So let me say, as a whole, they are a well-oiled machine for patient care – a true team.  Each and every staff member has a sincere spirit of service.

We never received a “no” or a “we can’t do that.” Everyone, every single time, gave us a can- do attitude. This hospital and its staff are a gift as well as a valuable asset to the residents of Poplarville and Pearl River County. I have been in and out of all the major hospitals in Dallas, Texas and even spent a week at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester.  The staff at Pearl River County Hospital are as good or better in patient care as any of these other “big city” facilities my family has used.

We were in a cozy room that had been recently renovated.  It was clean, beautifully designed and we were very comfortable in our stay there.  The meals were on time, hot, varied, well balanced and tasty every time.

Pearl River County Hospital is a small town facility with an over-sized heart. The staff are extremely competent and display compassion in all their tasks – even in the mundane and routine. It has been such a blessing to find ourselves in our own backyard with genuinely caring people who celebrate and champion every step of recovery.
