James Willard Owen, Sr., 78, of Poplaville, died Tuesday November 3, 2015 in Pearl River County Hospital, Poplarville.
Services will be at Sones Chapel Baptist Church on Thursday, November 5, 2015 at 2:00 p.m. with burial in the church cemetery. Rev. Billy Reyer, Rev. Breaux Tageant, Rev. Brad Miles, and Rev. Brandon Burge will officiate. Visitation will be from 10:00 a.m. until services, Thursday at the church.
Mr. Owen was born November 19, 1936 in Bogalusa, La. to Jessie Willard Owen and Mable Dimple Sones Owen. Mr. Owen had many achievements during his lifetime – most importantly his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. A dairy farmer, he was the former President of the Gulf Coast Dairymen Association. He was a tight end on the 1961 Pearl River
Community College National Champion Football team under
Coach Dobie Holden. He was a United States Air Force Veteran. He was a retired security officer at Pearl River Community College and served many law enforcement positions over the years.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by two sons: Jason Owen, Jimmy Owen; one grandson, Mark DeWayne Miller; and one sister, Marcella Stockstill.
Family members include his loving wife, Patricia Lumpkin Owen; four children, Johnny Owen (Kendra), Jacob Owen (Lauren), Elizabeth Cheree McClure (Bruce), Cherilyn Bisesi (Nick); one sister, Linda Pearl Dossett (Richard); twenty-six grandchildren; and eighteen great-grandchildren.
