Last Wednesday marked the beginning of fall, along with a barrage of pumpkin spice flavored delicacies.
Soon the temperature will drop and many of us will begin preparing for the holidays season, which is right around the corner.
During this festive time, Picayune Main Street has many events planned that are sure to get shoppers and blues lovers in the mood for one of the most eclectic times of year.
On Oct. 14, there will be a fall sidewalk sale in downtown Picayune.
According to Picayune Main Street flyers, merchants will have sales to make room for their much anticipated Christmas stock.
The blues will be heard throughout Picayune at the eighth annual Blues and Heritage Festival on Oct. 24 with performances by Vince Vance and the Valiants, a local band by the name Remedy and Al “Carnival Time” Johnson. The local Boulevard Cruisers and many artists and writer groups will also have events planned during the festival.
The Fall Street Festival will be held on Nov. 7 and 8, just in time to get a head start on Christmas shopping.
There will also be a classic car show and musical guests.
On Nov. 14, support your local merchants by attending Christmas Open House. During the evening, businesses will be open late.
Nov. 28 is National Small Business Saturday, which provides another reason to support Picayune’s economy.
On Dec. 4, Santa Claus arrives in Picayune for the annual Shop by Candlelight and Christmas on the Rails event.
With all these events, you are sure to find a gift for everyone on your Christmas list and maybe an item or two for yourself.
During these events, many people who have moved away return to Picayune, so it provides an opportunity to catch up with old friends and family.
We are thankful for the staff and board of Picayune Main Street, who not only enhance this special time of year, but also the beauty and economy of Picayune.
