Officials with the Pearl River and Hancock County Sheriff’s Departments are searching for a missing K-9 after a vehicle accident in Pearl River County on Tuesday afternoon.
Tuesday, Pearl River County deputes were searching for a teenager in the woods and asked for assistance from the Hancock County Sheriff’s Department, Pearl River County Sheriff David Allison said.
At about 4 p.m., the Hancock County deputy and his K-9 were involved in an accident at the intersection of Burntbridge and Walkiah Roads, Allison said.
“The K-9 cage went flying through the air, the door came open and the dog ran off,” Allison said. “Deputies spent the rest of the afternoon searching for the K-9 and patrolling the area. The teenager was later found on Hwy. 43.”
The Hancock County officer suffered minor injuries, Allison said.
Allison said, according to the accident report, the Hancock deputy was driving north on Burntbridge and when he approached the intersection, unintentionally ran the stop sign and was hit in the passenger side by another vehicle coming off of Highway 43.
“There are two stop signs at that intersection, about 100 feet from each other” Allison said. “Being unfamiliar with the intersection, he probably saw the second sign and not the first.”
Hancock County Sheriff Ricky Adam said their bloodhound, whose name is Radar, was spotted Wednesday morning not far from the accident, but as of press time Wednesday, had not been found.
“The public has provided a lot of help in finding him,” Adam said.
Allison said Radar is a black and brown bloodhound. He is wearing a black collar with the words sheriff imprinted on it.
Anyone with any information on Radar’s whereabouts are asked to contact the Pearl River County’s Sheriff’s Department at 601-798-5528.
