During two separate incidents on the same day, deputies with the Pearl River County Sheriff’s Department arrested three individuals for possession of narcotics.
On Aug. 25, deputies received a complaint regarding a black male, 28-year-old Tyrell Curry of 128 Byrd St., Carriere, who was observed loitering around a business in the Carriere area, Sheriff David Allison said. The complaint stated that Curry was possibly dealing narcotics from this location, the sheriff said.
Upon arrival, deputies observed Curry quickly enter the business, Allison said. When they entered the business, deputies then observed Curry exiting a small restroom at the rear of the store, the sheriff said.
A further investigation revealed Curry allegedly entered the restroom and made an unsuccessful attempt to flush what appeared to be methamphetamine down the toilet, Allison said.
Curry was charged with one count of tampering with physical evidence and one count of possession of a controlled substance with intent to distribute.
In a separate matter on the same day, deputies observed what they believed to be illegal drug activity occurring at a business in McNeill, Allison said. They entered the parking lot and observed two vehicles with people sitting in and outside the vehicles, the sheriff said.
The deputy recognized some of the people from past encounters involving illegal narcotics, Allison said.
When the suspects saw the deputies enter the parking lot, they quickly drove away and headed south on I-59, which prompted the deputy to follow in pursuit, the sheriff said.
The deputy then observed the suspect’s vehicle in a business parking lot near the Carriere exit, Allison said.
As the deputy entered the parking lot, he observed 54-year-old Manuel Lumpkin of 47 Justin Rd., Carriere exit a vehicle driven by 33-year-old Misty Trahan of 213 Diamond Lane, Carriere, Allison said.
The deputy observed Lumpkin walk quickly towards the store and contact was made before he entered the business, the sheriff said. Officers discovered Lumpkin to be in possession of what appeared to be alprazol pills in a clear plastic bag, the sheriff said.
Next, deputies made contact with Trahan and a K-9 ran around her car. The dog gave a positive alert for narcotics, Allison said.
During a search of the car, deputies discovered what appeared to be hydrocodone pills and glass pipe containing a white powder residue, the sheriff said.
Lumpkin and Trahan were both charged with one count of possession of a controlled substance with intent to distribute and one count of possession of drug paraphernalia.
