Funeral services for Christine Tillman Young, age 64 of Poplarville, who went to her heavenly rest on Thursday, September 10, 2015, will be held Thursday, September 17, 2015 at 11:00 a.m. at Hart’s Chapel Baptist Church.
Interment will be at the Rose Park Cemetery under the direction of Brown’s Funeral Home. Rev. Tommy Hart will officiate the service.
She attended Todd Memorial, Coahoma Jr. College and Mississippi Valley State. She discovered her calling to teach. Upon her graduation from Mississippi Valley State, she received her BS degree in education and went on to dedicate
33 years to teaching and working with children. She was employed with Poplarville Lower Elementary School for many years until she decided to retire. She continued to work with children at Kids Kampus and Kreative Kingdom.
The name Christine means “follower of Christ”. Under the leadership of Rev. Dr. Joe Beck, she joined the Triumph Baptist Church where she has been faithful since becoming a member. She served as a teacher of the Sunday School, Youth Department Matron, Youth Prayer Band, Mission #2, President of the Choir, Finance Committee, Secretary for the Mississippi State General Convention and All Conference for the Springhill Triumph Association. Christine had a gift to minister God’s love through teaching His word and singing His praises. She ministered through songs with various choirs from local to National conventions.
In her spare time, her greatest joy was witnessing to people about God’s goodness and salvation. Her favorite saying, “You got to know God for yourself.” Spending time with her family and friends were very important to her.
She was preceded in death her parents, Thomas and Mary Tillman, two brothers: Larry and Willie Lee Tillman.
To cherish her memories: a wonderful husband of 40 years, Billy Ray Young; two sons: Vincent (Tanesha) Young of Clarksville, TN and Kelby (Coretta) Young of Poplarville, MS; God-daughter, Moriah Silas, of Poplarville, MS; three brothers: Thomas (Edith) Tillman of Hutchinson, KS, Paul Terry Tillman of Varnado, LA and Sidney Tillman of Poplarville, MS; two sisters: Paulette T. Jackson, Meridan, MS and Gail P. Tillman of Poplarville, MS; six grandchildren: Victoria, Kiara, Shantay, Kelbie, Jasmine and Christopher Young; a special cousin, Mary L. Silas of Poplarville, MS; a special uncle, Rev. George (Barbara) Tillman of Carriere, MS; a host of relatives and friends.
