Members of Picayune’s Krewe of the Pearl are seeking local talent for their first Picayune’s Got Talent showcase.
Greater Picayune Area Chamber of Commerce Event Coordinator Keghan Odom said this is the first of many fundraising events the local Mardi Gras krewe has planned.
According to previous coverage, the Krewe of the Pearl has hosted a Mardi Gras parade for the past three years and hosts an annual ball in conjunction with the Greater Picayune Area Chamber of Commerce and Greater Picayune Arts Council.
“This city is full of hidden talent in all age groups,” Odom said. “This event gives them a chance to perform.”
There are 20 spots available for participants, Odom said. Prospects can choose from four categories including vocal, dance, instruments and miscellaneous, which could include stand-up comedy or a magic act. Performances will be limited to three minutes.
On Saturday, August 15 the group is holding auditions at the Centraplex, which is located at 1308 S. Haugh from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m.
There is a $25 entry fee per act to audition, Odom said. The event is open to anyone over the age of 10. There are no pet acts allowed and groups are limited to 12 people, Odom said.
Trophies will be awarded in each category, he said.
Audition applications are available at the chamber, Picayune Main Street, Stewart Insurance, Family Furniture and Bre’s Clothing and Accessories.
The showcase will be held on Saturday, August 29 at 6 p.m. at the Centraplex. Adult admission to the program will be $10 and $7 for students who provide identification. Children three and under can attend for free, Odom said.
All funds raised will go towards the krewe’s parades and ball, Odom said.
Odom would also like to remind krewe members that membership dues are now due and can be paid at the chamber.
The chamber is open Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. and is located at 200 Hwy. 11 N.
